Kinja'd!!!

Here's my dirtiest chapter in the German van manual

The few times I have had the rear hub apart or replaced rear brakes/cylinders, I could never remember how those springs went back on, so my dirty fingers had to keep picking the book up.. I believe I also looked at it for torque values of the axle nut. LOL, like I had anything to measure 350 ft/lbs.

What's your dirtiest page?

Edit, I just flipped through a few more manuals to find....

Kinja'd!!!

^^ Water pump in the long British car manual

Kinja'd!!!

^^ More drum brake pages in the little British car manual.

Manuals not shown:

Mrs McMike's appliance (hardly any fingerprints)

Harley Davidson factory manual (not yet)

Previously owned cars manuals didn't have many.

My haynes is brand new so the only dirty pages are ones that refer to changing the timing belt on a Miata.

The feels, man. I only just finished putting a set of discs back together, and did a set of stupidly designed rear drums only a week ago. Brake filth and springs, the deadly duo.

I think the dirtiest page in the Land Rover manual is wheel hubs - for reasons of bearing end float adjustment spec via a dial gauge.

I don't have a pic and I'm at worn but I know the most used pages off the top of my head.

Chiltons 1975, 1966-1968 Chevy section for torque specs and timing info on small blocks mainly 327/350ho variant

Ha, that's true. I'm still 100% paper for my manuals. I have one of them in PDF, but it's not the same.

There's nothing like sitting Indian style in the driveway, flipping through pages, scratching your head reading a wiring diagram.

I remember having to go to the library to copy pages out of a service manual to fix my cars..... now I have a Haynes manual for the Camry I haven't opened (came with the car) and a subscription through work for AllData Pro that I use constantly.

Axle nut? Front drums?

Has to be.

No driving experience is complete until you've tried stopping a poorly adjusted, four drum car in the rain, on questionable rubber.

My shop manual was dirty as heck in the valvetrain section. I'd have to run back to Chicago to get a pic.

Ew, no.. Those are rear drums (in both cases)

I have never owned a car with front drums. I don't think I would like it very much.

There is no manual because there is no car. Oh the joys of being 16.

Pretty much any manual I've ever had, the pages that have the fastener torques for the brakes are a lovely even shade of grey.

You've got to have some dirty pages somewhere....

Edit - I mean "naked" dirty, not what I misread this as after I posted it.

Damn.

I'm glad we've moved past drums.

Though I could probably do GM and ChryCo rear drums by touch. Those springs suck.

Sounds about right. Hands on dust, hands on book, torque, hands on dust book, repeat

Why would do that in a magazine? You know what I mean not pose nude.

Miata timing belt. Most pages in the chapter look like this.

I add notes in my manuals, too.

For repairs or adjustments I know I'll need to do in the future, I always annotate the diagrams with the fastener size.

I also use sticky notes for TL:DR procedures. Like bleeding the coolant system. I can usually jot down a few bullets and slap the note on that page.

I don't need to read the 10 earlier steps that say "Let the car cool before opening the coolant system, make sure to place the pan underneath the car to catch the fluid, be sure to dispose of the coolant properly, disconnect negative terminal, etc.. etc...."

For a late 90's VAG product, it isn't all that dirty. This page, with front axle components is the dirtiest one, excluding the front page.

The pages of my FZ6 manual that have the diagram for which direction loosens/tightens the chain. I've done it plenty of times now, but I always second-guess my memory.

I think that's the theme. A dirty, detailed job.

I don't think my front brake pages have any fingerprints on them. (not complicated)

My wiring diagrams have none (not dirty)
